Māori Tattoo

Kia Ora,

Māori Iwi, Hāpū and Whānau are some of the fiercest nature and knowledge protectors on the planet from Aotearoa. Some of the magic coming to Banff is learning about new cultures.

Iwi (tribes), Hāpū (clans) and Whānau (extended families) are one of the world’s most prolific geothermal energy and renewable resource leaders. Aotearoa is commonly known as the country of New Zealand.

Tattooing arts were practised by individuals in high-status social positions. Tā moko is the permanent marking practised by the Māori. Prior to the 1907 Tohunga Suppression Act, the practice of moko was still common. Recent times have seen the emergence of traditional practices. At Rundle Mountain Ink we are happy to see people reconnect and rekindle cultural roots. It’s healthy, the bravest thing you will do in this life is be who you are.
